Word from the Principal
Welcome to CPGE at St-Charles
"Become an engineer, a researcher, an officer, a teacher, a financial specialist,... May everyone find their way to success: this is our goal in scientific preparatory classes.Admission to preparatory classes doesn’t require a specific “format”, each student having a unique profile. Common aspects do link them though: a real taste for science, authentic motivation and involvment as actors of their personal project and finally get into a “Grande Ecole” by succeeding second year tests or continuing evaluation with our partner schools."
Preparatory Classes fot the linked MPSI-MP
Conditions to succeed :
A love for maths and physics
A will to progress and succeed
Your two years of preparation at St-Charles will help you to develop your attention, work and organisation skills, a plaesure to work individually and in teams. A student in Terminale S, willing, serious and curious, will integrate, within 2 or 3 years, a Great Ingineering School.
Organisation of studies
A “preparatory class to Great Schools” (CPGE) is a two year program which prepares students to sit the admission tests to the Great Schools. Our preparatory class focuses on MPSI/MP meaning “maths, physics and engineering science” in first year and “maths, physics” in second year.
To guaranty our students’ choices, we have signed agreements with 3 Great Schools (HEI, ISEN and ISEP) who pre-enrol students at the end of Terminale year. Thus, at the end of the two year programme, students are admitted by decision from the class council (not through tests) to one of the 3 partner schools. But, of course, being prepared for this, they can still sit other school tests if they so desire.
This is why our preparatory school is “linked ans open”: linked to our 3 partner schools and open to other Great Engineering Schools through tests.
For 20 years, our students have joined
● Engineering schools that lead to carreers in industrial research, production and distribution in a range of domains such as aeronautics, chemistry, computer studies, public works, mecanics, electronics, nuclear power, textile, statistics, finance,...
● University or Superior Normal Schools, leading to teaching and research carreers.
● Military school : Saint-Cyr, Navale, Air school …
Organisation of studies
● develop personal, individual and team work ;
● put in perspective several skills such as autonomy, initiative, arguing and communicating both orally and in writing ;
● match the acquired skills to different disciplines.
The “EXTRA” at St-Charles:
Bilingual English Section (ASB) : 2h weekly and Human Development for 1h.
Continuing evaluation
● oral tests or “Khôlles” : each student presents one or more exercises to the teacher (develops oral skills, presenting ideas, initiative, quick thinking, ease to speak, checking lesson comprehension)
● supervised homework: 1 a week, 4 hours on Saturday mornings.
Personal Help Provided
Help provided to students in CPGE
“Lead students towards more meaning to life in all aspects of their personality”
● A pedagogical team made up of associate professors, fully mobilised for your success.
● A pedagogy based on motivation: pedagogical help, several evenings a week, to ensure motivating work atmosphere and solve eventual difficulties, team work, a dynamic and convivial setting: a “human” preparatory school.
● Reasonable number of students per class: personnalised advice and encouragements allowing you to find you own work method and rythm so that you can give out the best.
● A management and teaching staff available for any issues regarding school, administration or personel.
A Human Training
A fully intellectual training with real emphasis on languages: preparation for certifications, study trips, mandatory third language (LV2), and :
● An introduction to business through visits and an apprenticeship in second year ;
● Time given to sports for a well balanced life : 2 hours a week set in the timetable ;
● Pastoral participation: conferences, celebrations, strong events ;
● Participation in Orleans’ higher education inter-school meetings (ESCO).
Partner schools to our preparatory classes
Students in the “linked” preparatory classes follow the MPSI curriculum in the first year and the MP curriculum in the second after which they can join an engineering school (HEI, ISEN or ISEP) provided this is validated in the class council.
HEI : Created in Lille in 1885, HEI has developed its activities to train general engineers, open to the world, humanists, able to listen, who use a manager’s approach with an international profile.
ISEN : ISEN’s teaching teams and staff have chosen 5 ambitions for your training that aim to make you a professional engineer and humanly responsible.
ISEP : a great school in engineering and digital technology :
● computer studies
● telecommunication and network
● electronics
● on-board systems, signal and image processing
● project management
